Self-care is an important asset to improve our overall health and promote positivity in our lives. However, we will often forget to take care of our hands and help them stay soft and smooth. Here are a few of our thoughts on how to take care of your fingernails if you need improved ways to take care of them.

You Need To Wash Your Hands Daily
It’s common practice to wash your hands: we were taught this in kindergarten. But sometimes, we forget because our busy lives cause us to feel drained at the end of the day. Even if you aren’t near a sink with soap, carry hand sanitizer with you and use it often.
Make Sure You Brush Your Nails
Every time you touch your face with your hands, you need to clean them. When you use a brush on your fingernails, you are preventing harmful bacteria from living inside of the nailbeds of your fingers. Using a brush will also exfoliate and remove dead skin. Don’t scrub rough, though: doing so can cause cuts and bleeding.
Use a Daily Moisturizer
Like hand sanitizer, carrying lotion and moisturizer around daily will help improve the overall health of your nails. Washing and brushing can only do so much, so buy a moisturizer or lotion with good nutrients, such as coconut oil. You will soon see a vast improvement in how your hands feel.
You Need To Trim Your Nails
Whether that’s once a week or daily, you need to make a habit of trimming your nails. As your nails grow, you should use a pair of nail clippers or manicure scissors to cut and shape them properly. Do this once every two weeks to help keep up with maintenance.
Don’t Touch Your Cuticles
Instead of cutting your cuticles, apply essential oil to them to help grow healthy nails. If you remove your cuticles, you expose yourself to harmful bacteria. Know the steps in how to take care of your fingernails and leave your cuticles alone.
Don’t Bite Your Nails
Even after trimming, you need to break the habit of biting your nails. If your nail breaks, don’t bite it off: trim it instead. If you’re a nail biter, your nails will become weak and brittle from contact with the saliva in your mouth. You are also exposing yourself to the harmful bacteria under your nails. If you have a nail-biting habit, try putting lemon juice on your fingers to prevent the temptation, or paint a clear coat of gel nail polish for a firm hold.
Taking care of your nails takes time and practice. It is a habit that you must practice actively. Take care and protect your nails from harmful bacteria and potential breakage.
